ICF Basement Builds in Germany
German basement specialist Freestand Kellerbau selected Polarwall after reviewing ICF systems available in Germany and the UK. The company required formwork with the consistency and lateral stability needed to pour and vibrate concrete confidently while reducing the risk of voids within the finished walls.
Following its first Polarwall basement project, Freestand Kellerbau reported a saving of Euros 1,600 compared with constructing the walls using a precast system. The company also expected the savings to increase as its workforce became more experienced with the formwork.
The project introduced several adaptations, including a textured XPS board designed to bond with concrete in basement construction and a window poured in situ. It demonstrated how Polarwall could be adapted to specialist basement requirements outside the UK.
