South West Acute Hospital – Emergency Department, Enniskillen
PROJECT:
The refurbishment of a hospital emergency department, and in particular its nine assessment treatment rooms, which were laid out in two rows, either side of a central hallway.
SOLUTION:
Axis replaced the solid walls and doors of the nine assessment treatment rooms with our own, award-winning solution: FLO-MOTION® DOORS, the extra low friction manual sliding door system.
The full width and height doors, which are fabricated using extruded aluminium profiles and include a self-supporting ‘goalpost’ frame, feature recirculating ball guides on a low resistance linear track with damper mechanism.
Providing an average opening force of just 10.1N, the doors can be opened and closed with fingertip control.
OUTCOME:
The refurbished department has provided a number of significant benefits for the emergency department, including:
- More efficient and effective working
- A more spacious department with more natural light
- Providing staff and patients with better visibility of each other
- Better patient experience
"We now have an emergency department that is an exemplar design fro others to draw upon nationally and which maximises petient safety within our own emergency department."
Ian Crawford, Consultant in Emergency Medicine
