Slate Tiles Slate is a fine-grained, homogeneous, metamorphic rock derived from an original shale-type sedimentary rock composed of clay or volcanic ash through low grade regional metamorphism. It splits easily into sheets and most commonly comes in green and black shades. It is most often used for floor tiles and kitchen worktops.
