FP McCann have supplied 103m2 of precast Beam & Block Flooring to ongoing Lakeside Cabin project on the banks of Lough Erne.

Our traditional beam and block flooring systems use 178mm deep floor beams with a width of 106mm and spans of up to 6 metres.

This scenic and private lakeside cabin is 103m2 and is due for high standard completion in early 2026.

Beam and block flooring is useful for eliminating soil heave and shrinkage problems by creating a void underneath the floor to allow for movement of the soil whilst maintaining a stable structure.

Precast concrete beam and block flooring also offers excellent fire resistance due to its non-combustible materials and inherent ability to maintain structural integrity under high temperatures.

Project contractor Brendan McManus said “The decision to use a block and beam flooring system for our lakeside cabin was driven by the unique challenges and sensitivities of the site. Positioned right on the shores of Lower Lough Erne and nestled among mature broadleaf trees, the design brief required that all existing trees be retained. This ruled out traditional strip foundations. Instead, the cabin is supported on 23 concrete pads, with galvanized RSJs forming the structural base for the floor, uprights, and roof beams. Given the limited site access and the need for an efficient and adaptable flooring solution, FP McCann’s Block and Beam system was the clear choice. The installation process was remarkably straightforward, and the system adapted easily to the layout of the steel supports. Within just a few days, the floor was in place and approved by our local building control officer. This cabin is intended for private use, offering a peaceful retreat for friends and family in a truly special location. We take great comfort in knowing that it’s built with durable, high-quality materials – providing excellent insulation and structural integrity, thanks in no small part to the FP McCann Block and Beam system.”
