FP McCann’s Toomebridge Depot manufactured and installed 450 precast stepped revetment units to the £9m, A174 Sandsend Road/Sandsend Coastal Protection Scheme.
The scheme commenced operations in June 2015 and was completed in July 2016. It provides protection along approximately 800m of North Yorkshire coastline to a number of valuable commercial and residential properties together with an improved amenity for visitors to this popular stretch of sand and sea.
Most importantly, through extensive slope stabilisation works on the landward side of the A174 coastal road, the scheme is intended to maintain freedom from land slippage which has caused road closure in recent years.
On the seaward side, falling towards the sandy beach, the existing land revetment has been stabilised through the installation of concrete blinding, a section of Dycel Blocks and Precast Concrete stepped Revetments.
