This worm like parasite, encased in a shell, is called Cryptosporidium (or “Crypto” for short). It is a very small and very nasty waterborne contaminant that can be hard to detect, yet poses a significant health risk. It often prompts water authorities to send out “boil notices”.
Often found in water supplies that have been contaminated with cattle manure, it has also been found in tap water. If fact just this month Bristol Water issued a “boil notice” as cryposporidium had been found.
Drinking this tiny monster could give you a desease called Cryptosporidiosis, and infection of the bowls which can lead to diarrhoea and vomiting.
