Althon Headwall - Types of Projects
Althon headwalls for HS2
Althon has supplied hundreds of headwalls to the HS2 rail project.
Where required, the company has provided headwalls with CARES-accredited steel reinforcement. All headwalls were manufactured using a low-carbon concrete mix while meeting the requirements of BS 8500.
Where necessary, Althon headwalls comply with the HS2 specification for civil engineering works. SCEW-1700 Structural Concrete relates to precast structures used in a structural or load-bearing capacity. Due to their retaining wall function, Althon headwalls can fall within this specification.
The specification requires relevant Althon headwall structures to have a 120-year design life. This is determined by minimum concrete cover to the steel reinforcement on the wall and apron thickness, together with a requirement for grade 316 stainless steel components that come into contact with the concrete.
This includes cast-in accessory sockets, toe extension connections and any internal reinforcement steel used to anchor these sockets.
Althon headwalls for infrastructure projects
Alongside HS2, Althon has supplied precast headwalls to Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C nuclear power stations.
The company has also supplied headwalls for airports, freight terminals, ports, solar farms and infrastructure linked to offshore wind projects.
Althon headwalls for highways
Althon can help specify the correct headwalls for highways schemes, with options available for headwalls offering both 50-year and 120-year design life.
Althon headwalls for water authorities and the Environment Agency
Althon can assist with specifying the correct headwall depending on the requirements of a specific water authority or the Environment Agency.
The company offers headwalls suitable for adoption under Sewerage Sector Guidance, as well as ranges developed specifically for Severn Trent and Anglian Water.
