Project details:
New Union Wharf is a residential property development on the Isle of Dogs in London’s Docklands, facing eastwards over the River Thames and affording panoramic views to the Greenwich Peninsula and the O2 Arena. Phase one of the development offers 69 private sale units and by 2022 will comprise nearly 400 new homes - nearly 200 social rent, 50 shared ownership and 150 private sales. The site covers 1.7 hectares and will ultimately feature five towers and provide 7,500 sq m of child-friendly play space in the areas around and between. This total amount significantly exceeds the benchmark figure specified in the Mayor of London’s Supplementary Planning Guidance, with formal and informal play facilities incorporated within the proposed courtyards, ‘home zone’ streetscapes and an enhanced landscaped walkway fronting the river. For small children and toddlers, all new homes have access to private amenity space in the form of balconies, terraces and a number of ground floor / podium flats with small private gardens that abut semi-private landscaped courtyards. In the first of the courtyards Furnitubes’ concrete Blyth seating blocks and circular steel Arca litter bins have been chosen for the amenity furniture, providing high quality and robust products that will stand the test of time, at what is certain to be a popular residential development with well-used outdoor spaces.
