Project details:
Grove Park grew as a London suburb in the 1870s, developing further with the arrival of the railway and expanding with the building of large areas of local authority housing in the 1920s. With quick rail journey times into central London and being an important connection point for the local bus network, Grove Park is an even busier commuter hub today, with the roads around the station under increasing pressure during rush hours in particular. A major new scheme to improve vehicular and pedestrian circulation has been implemented, including new kerbs, paving, carriageway surfacing, upgrading of traffic signals and improvements to drainage, together with streetscape enhancements including extensive new tree planting and installation of new street furniture.
New seating is an important addition to the area, providing commuters and local shoppers with somewhere to take the weight off their feet, and Furnitubes’ Zenith range was the perfect choice as it provides many different seating forms within a single range. As well as conventional seats with backs, curved benches have been used around new trees planted in build-outs at the end of bus stops and parking bays. This semi-circular arrangement is a standard product comprising 3 linked bench modules on a 1.8m centre line radius, with steelwork in a brushed finish grade 304 stainless steel, and timber slats in a natural finish iroko. Benches without backrests bring the benefit of dual aspect seating, allowing users to either face inwards and across the road, or outwards onto the footway and local shops, whilst also being well placed to see arrivals at the adjacent bus stop.
