Project details:
Located in the regenerated area of Grahame Park in north west London, the new 10 storey Colindale Offices comprises 90,000 sq ft of space to accommodate relocated London Borough of Barnet staff and also community facilities including social services, a business innovation hub, a café and a public conference suite. The building responds to the constrained nature of the site by combining two simple geometric elements: a triangular-shaped 4 storey block which maximises the footprint of the site and addresses the scale of the surrounding lower-rise residential developments, and a taller 10 storey more slender rectangular tower which provides the majority of the office space. The roof of the 4 storey element has been cleverly utilised as an outdoor terrace, available for use by both staff and visitors.
The roof terrace edge is bounded by a sedum-planted margin and the space includes large raised timber planting beds and is surfaced in a mosaic of hard paving for the pathways, hardwood decking for the relaxation areas and pebble borders. For the decked areas Furnitubes has supplied 6 table and bench sets and a further 7 independent benches from the RailRoad Inline range, with ‘Delta’ supports that can be readily bolted down to the decking for a solid placement at this potentially windy site. Aligning with the brick piers of the higher tower and between the glazed frontages, 11 RailRoad planters have been placed in the gravel margins to perfectly compliment the nearby seating, and planted with contemporary box topiary balls.
